2D Animated TCG Card Game Commercial

This 15-second animated commercial was created to promote Ward TCG, a trading card gamebuilt around original characters and high-energy battles.

The goal was not to explain mechanics. It was to make the game feel electric.

I approached the project as a short-form TCG animated advertisement inspired by early 90s after-school cartoons. I studied real action beats from that era and rebuilt that energy using Ward’s characters. Every shot is a peak moment. Power-ups, mid-air clashes, dramatic standoffs. No filler. Just impact.

The animation was intentionally produced at a lower frame rate to match the feel of classic television animation. That decision gives the action weight and authenticity while maintaining modern clarity.

By designing the spot around only the most exciting beats and cutting them rapidly, the pacing never settles. It keeps viewers locked in for the full 15 seconds, which is critical for social media advertising in the trading card game space.

I handled concept development, story planning, character spotlight sequencing, storyboards, rough animation passes, final animation refinement, editing, motion graphics, and sound design.

This project demonstrates how 2D character animation can be used to create high-impact marketing for collectible card games and entertainment brands.

Behind The Scenes
